NEW BUSINESS
2010 Budget
The proposed
budget for 2010, which was approved by the property owners at the Annual Meeting in July, was presented to the county commissioners
on September 8th and the Commissioners granted their approval. The 2010 assessment per littoral property owner
will be $111.86
Milfoil Survey Results”
Pat Selter, Professional Lake Management,
surveyed the lake July 30-August 1st, and found the bay at the West End Access to have northern water milfoil.
Bays on the south shoreline have milfoil patches, and an area near Ogema Point shows milfoil growth. Mr. Selter hoped to
obtain a permit from the DNR to treat an additional 12.66 acres.
Milfoil Observations in September:
Board Members are concerned about the rapid milfoil growth in several areas on Lake Alexander. In August and September,
milfoil growth was observed in areas that were not treated. The areas between Haystack Island and Flolid’s Point,
along with the area around Soldier’s Island, have thick milfoil growth, reaching the point of being near impassable
for watercraft. Concerns from property owners have been received and noted.
.Proposed Plans of Action:
It was noted that the DNR Commissioner almost never grants a variance for treatable acreage, holding fast to the 15% of
littoral area rule, leaving Lake Alexander a maximum treatable area of 112.5 acres
Heavier chemical application next
spring might be one option. Application of experimental chemicals may be an avenue for receiving a variance for treating
a few additional acres. Contacting local and state representatives may be an additional option.
A meeting with Pat
Selter is needed to explore additional avenues for treatment.
Requirements for 2010:
Bids
for exotic plant chemical treatment for a three year commitment must be sought in 2010. Bid applications and a legal notice
in the Morrison County Record are in order.
A mailing list needs to be obtained in order that permission slips for
property owners whose lake shore is within 150 feet of herbicide treatment might be sent.
Next Board
Meeting;
Rick will contact Pet Selter and find a meeting date compatible with the Board, in hopes to
gain some insight as to what other LIDs are doing to expand their treatment program. . The meeting date is set for November
3rd at 6:00 P.M. at the Scandia Valley Town Hall.
Adjourn:
Meeting adjourned
at 7:03 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Darline Molde
